GUIFFRE DISTRIBUTING COMPANY
A FAMILY TRADITION
from 1934 to today
Guiffré Distributing Company has been family owned and operated for seventy-five years. Tony and Theresa Guiffré, both in their mid 50s, saw an opportunity to start a new business when prohibition ended in 1933. The business started in a garage, in the back of a shoe store, in Alexandria, VA.
In 1943 Tony died. Theresa and Tonys oldest son, Guy, ran the business until 1946 when Joe, Sr. their middle son joined them. By 1953 there were four route trucks serving approximately 600 customers.
Joe, Jr. started as a part-time warehouse employee in about 1948.
He was a driver/salesman for four years until he took over the sales supervisor position in 1961.
In 1963, Joes father died. His mother, Margaret, asked him to run the business. She sold him a little over half of the company.
Mike Guiffré received a taste of the business, starting in the warehouse at the age of thirteen and then moving to the streets. He has learned the business from the ground up. Joe, Jr. retired in 1993. In 2011, Mike bought 100% of the company and manages the business on a day-to-day basis.
Throughout the next generations, the company progressively developed into a multi-brand house, selling beer, wine, soda and water. The company acquired King Wholesale in 2007, solidifying its position in an ever consolidating industry.
Guiffré Distributing Company combines two wholesalers, a growing brand portfolio, and one familys love of the business.
